SHINOHEI-GAMA

SHINOHEI-GAMA

Kameoka, Kyoto

Shared Life, Shared Vision

A common passion for art brought Megumi and Takashi Shinohara together.  Both grew up in the rural outskirts of Tokyo, but it was only after they followed their artistic dreams to faraway Kyushu that they realized they had a future in ceramics as husband and wife.

Years of apprenticing in the renowned producing regions of Arita, Hasami, and Seto allowed the couple to gradually form their own unique interpretations of Japanese tradition and culture.  In 2018, they built a small shop – Shinohei-gama – near the ancient city of Kyoto, where the history and customs of old Japan still live and breathe every day.

Combining their diverse talents and deep experience, the Shinoharas have established a bold, modern style inspired by the essential Japanese connection between nature and art.
